Special Education is acutely aware that every student learns in their own unique way(s). Many students who are experiencing academic, behavioral and/or communication difficulties may be helped through pupil appraisal recommendations used in the general education classroom. These recommendations enable the student to succeed in the general education curriculum, thus assuring that all students will learn to their highest potential and eliminating the need for a special education evaluation.
However, when research-based intervention data suggest that a student is exceptional, we offer a comprehensive evaluation to determine eligibility for a classification according to Louisiana Bulletin #1508. Additionally, we support highly gifted and/or talented students in our district. We also support teachers by providing professional development, recommendations, and/or interventions to assist with their students’ needs.
