What is an Educational Diagnostician?
Educational diagnosticians are experts on learning disabilities, teaching methods, and academic testing. They serve on the Pupil Appraisal team and specialize in educational diagnostic services, academic assessments, classroom-based assessments, curriculum-based assessments, learning styles, educational intervention strategies, and special/regular education support. Their extensive knowledge in all of these areas allows them to help children be successful no matter what their learning style or delay. Educational Diagnosticians also administer and interpret academic assessments to students being evaluated for special education eligibility. The Educational Diagnostician is the "academic" specialist of the team, as he/she is the only member of the team that MUST have had prior teaching experience. Educational diagnosticians are specialists who bring a high level of knowledge and experience to the job.
What can educational diagnosticians do:
- Perform formal assessments with students who are struggling academically.
- Observe students in a class in order to determine their learning style.
- Share their findings and plans for students with teachers, school administrators, and parents during IEP meetings.
- Help teachers implement academic interventions and differentiate in the classroom.
