The Plaquemines Parish School Board shall require the following provisions be adhered to concerning Mardi Gras parades or similar student participation for all Plaquemines Parish public schools.


  1. Upon receipt of a parade invitation that the director wishes to participate in, the director will follow the chain of command and brief the school principal for his/her approval.

  2. Once such approval is received, a written request will be made to the School Board.

  3. Once approved by the School Board, arrangements will be made with the parish busing authority for transportation.

  4. Contracts should not be made with carnival krewes whose routes go through known high risk areas; example, the core area of New Orleans.  However, this definition of high risk could apply to areas on the East or West banks of New Orleans.

  5. Parade krewes should furnish directors with proof of insurance to cover bodily liability and/or death claims.

  6. Parents' consent must be obtained for each band student participating in a parade by means of a signed written permission slip provided by the school.
