ENTRANCE AGE

 

 

The Plaquemines Parish School Board shall require children entering kindergarten at the beginning of the school session for the first time to be at least five (5) years of age on or before September 30 of the calendar year in which the school year begins.  Kindergarten students entering after the school session has started must meet Plaquemines Parish entrance requirements.  For students entering first grade for the first time at the beginning of the school session, they shall be six (6) years on or before September 30 of the calendar year in which the school year begins.

 

Any transfer student from within the state whose entrance age or enrollment might conflict with state law shall submit sufficient evidence that he/she was legally qualified to attend school in the former parish.  Out-of-state students shall meet all applicable state entrance requirements.

 

A child younger than the above may be permitted to enter school provided the child has been evaluated and identified as gifted in accordance with the regulations of the Louisiana Department of Education for such evaluation.  A child admitted to kindergarten shall be eligible to enter first grade upon successful completion of kindergarten, provided all other applicable entrance requirements have been fulfilled.
