BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

 

 

The Plaquemines Parish School Board shall grant employees up to three (3) days of bereavement leave time for death in the immediate family, which shall include the employee's spouse, children, parents, step-parents, grandparents, grandchildren, brothers, and sisters.  Bereavement leave of three (3) days shall also be granted for death in the immediate family of an employee's spouse.  The immediate family of the employee's spouse shall include children, brothers, sisters, parents, step-parents, grandparents and grandchildren.  The leave shall be granted upon presentation to the Superintendent of an obituary and absence form stating the relationship of the deceased.

 

If the funeral is in a location of more than two hundred (200) miles from the employee's work station, the Superintendent may grant an additional day, if required, upon proper written verification by the employee.

 

Bereavement leave shall be in addition to any sick or emergency leave provided by the school system or otherwise and shall not be deducted from sick leave.  Bereavement leave shall be noncumulative.

 

The employee's principal must be notified prior to the beginning of bereavement leave.
