Solar Eclipse August 21, 2017

Dear Parents,

As you know, a solar eclipse is going to occur on Monday, August 21st.  Each of our schools have made plans to incorporate this event into their instructional day by designing lessons tied to the eclipse.  Students will be able to watch this event safely inside classrooms.

Because we always put student safety first, no student will be allowed to view the eclipse outdoors.  Students will not be allowed to view the eclipse with safety glasses that they may bring from home as we can’t guarantee that those glasses meet the safety specifications for viewing the eclipse.

Parents who may want to view the solar eclipse with their children may check them out of school between the hours of 11:00am – 12:00 noon.  This will allow students to receive at least a half-day of instruction.  We encourage all parents who choose to view the solar eclipse at home to take all of the necessary safety precautions.  We also encourage parents who choose this option to make it a learning event by discussing the eclipse their children.  There are also tons of activities regarding the eclipse at
