STUDENT USE OF PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES

The Plaquemines Parish School Board requires standards of decorum that foster learning in an orderly manner and recognizes the necessity for reasonable control of the students under its jurisdiction.  The School Board expressly prohibits the possession, wearing, use, operation, or activation of any electronic telecommunication device by any student (this includes sending and receiving text messages, and taking, sending, and/or receiving pictures/graphics), unless authorized by the school principal/designee.

Electronic telecommunication devices may include any facsimile system, radio paging service, mobile telephone service, intercom, or electro-mechanical paging system.

The School Board also prohibits the possession, wearing, use, operation, or activation of any digital music player, such as an iPod or MP3 player.

These prohibitions are for any elementary or secondary school building, or on the grounds thereof or in any school bus.  A violation of these provisions shall be grounds for disciplinary action, including, but not limited to, suspension or referral of the student to the juvenile court of the parish.
