ANNUAL LEAVE

 

 

Annual leave shall be granted to all 12-month full-time employees for the purpose of rehabilitation and restoration of work efficiency, transaction of personal affairs which include such absences as vacations, illness in the family, and attending funerals of other than immediate family.

 

Earning of vacation shall be based on the equivalent of years of full-time service and shall be credited in accordance with the following schedule:

 

  1. During the first six (6) months of employment no vacation is earned.

  2. Beginning with the seventh (7th) month of employment through June 30th of that fiscal year, the employee shall earn 0.833 work days per month for vacation.

  3. Beginning with the second (2nd) year of employment through the ninth (9th) year of employment, the employee shall earn ten (10) work days per year for vacation which is 0.833 days per month.

  4. Beginning with the tenth (10th) year of employment through the fifteenth (15th) year of employment, the employee shall earn fifteen (15) work days per year for vacation or 1.25 days per month.

  5. Beginning with the sixteenth (16th) year of service and thereafter the employee shall earn twenty (20) work days per year for vacation or 1.66 days per month.

 

Annual leave shall be taken at a time approved by the employee's immediate supervisor, but generally during the summer.  Requests for annual leave shall be requested in writing at least ten (10) working days prior to the date leave is requested.  Except for extraordinary work demands for a particular division, employees are required to take their earned vacations prior to the end of the calendar year.  Unused vacation time may be accumulated up to fifty (50) working days.  The fifty (50) days of maximum accrued vacation shall not include the vacation days earned in the current year.  Any person employed in or promoted to a twelve (12)-month position after June 30, 2011 will only be allowed to accumulate unused vacation time up to twenty-five (25) working days.  The twenty-five (25) days of maximum accrued vacation shall not include the vacation days earned in the current year.

 

The above personnel shall continue to observe the same holiday and staggered work schedule during holidays as approved on the school calendar.  These days shall not be considered annual leave.

 

Employees exceeding their annual leave shall automatically be deducted at full pay.

 

The Board strongly recommends that principals and supervisors take vacation leave during the months in which school is not in session.

 

Upon retirement, resignation, or termination of employment, the employee may be paid for any unused accumulated annual leave, not to exceed the maximum accrued days, at the employee’s daily rate of pay at the time of leaving employment or may convert such unused accumulated annual leave to service credit for retirement purposes, if allowed by the retirement system.  If the employee chooses the service credit conversion option, the statutes and regulations related to the respective retirement system will apply.  If the Upon request for payment for unused annual leave, chooses to be paid payment shall be made to the employee, or upon his/her death, to his/her heirs, on or before the next regular payday for the pay cycle during which the employee was working at the time of separation. or no later than fifteen (15) days following the date of separation, whichever occurs first.  Payment must be requested in writing to the Board.
