SCHOOL CENSUS

 

 

The Plaquemines Parish School Board shall require an annual school census of school-age children based on the information obtained from the public schools under the jurisdiction of the School Board.  A base student membership count shall be conducted in accordance with Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) guidelines on such student count dates designated in the annually adopted Minimum Foundation Program Formula.

 

It shall be the policy of the Plaquemines Parish School Board that at least three (3) student counts be taken by the schools in August and September.  Such counts shall be made to enable the Superintendent to make adjustments in staff assignments.

 

The October 1 count shall be manual and/or by computer.  The manual count shall be conducted by school administrators with each regular teacher submitting the number of students in his/her class and initialing the number.  The administrator shall check the teacher's roll book for accuracy.  Homeroom rosters gener­ated by the school system computer shall be used to finalize the October 1 count.

 

The October 1 count for Special Education students shall be kept on LANCER, the state special education program.

 

All students included for membership in school shall be identified with the following required identification elements:  state identification number, full legal name, date of birth, sex, race, district and school code, entry date, and grade placement.  Principals shall be responsible for assuring the data submitted on each student enrolled in school is accurate and up-to-date.

 

A census district-wide report shall be completed for all children entering school by the date specified in the Annual School Report.

 

After this period, census information should be secured from:

 

  1. New registrations (children who have not been in any school this session).

  2. Children coming from schools within the Parish and other parishes or cities of the state.

  3. Children coming from schools in other states and countries.

 

Schools must maintain all census forms on their students.
