Textbook Policy

The Plaquemines Parish School Board assures that the mandates of the state legislature for instruction in specific subjects shall conform with the State Department of Education.  The Board further recognizes the important task assigned to schools to educate all students regardless of their abilities.  Therefore, the board concentrates its efforts in supplementing the state in the maximum intellectual development of students in this parish.  The board assumes shared responsibility in providing current textbooks to all students.

The principal shall insure that all state adopted textbooks issued to his/her school are properly used and that approved textbook accounting is maintained within the school.

All books must have labels and/or numbers.  The teacher (not the pupil) must write pupil’s name in the book issued.  The teacher will be responsible for maintaining a list of all issued and lost/damaged textbooks.  A textbook inventory and needs assessment will be coordinated by a designated textbook coordinator at the schools and central office.   Books should be inspected on a quarterly basis or as need arises.  A report on issued books shall be submitted to the textbook coordinator at the end of year.

The principal / designee shall be responsible for collecting all textbooks at the end of each school year or at the end of a course.  Lost textbooks will be replaced and charged to responsible student(s) at full price.  Fees collected for lost books shall be submitted to the school’s office for financial accounting.   All monies collected for lost/damaged books shall be turned in to central office at the end of the fiscal year on June 30th.  In the event of an unusual circumstance, the textbook coordinator at central office shall be notified immediately.

The disposition of old and obsolete textbooks shall be accomplished under the direction of the superintendent / designee in accordance with the state and local administrative regulations.
