Three Belle Chasse Middle School fifth graders received an early Christmas present on Thursday December 20th during an assembly at the school.  The Pearson Foundation presented them with new Fujitsu Lifebook laptop computers. During the summer, the students, Bailey Culpepper, Emily Johnson, and Mallory Horton, participated in a two-week digital arts camp at the school. At the camp students in grades 5-8 learned how to create movies on computers.  For the past two years Plaquemines Parish School Board in conjunction with the Pearson Foundation, has sponsored the camp that has implemented movie-making skills in several of their schools through out the parish.  During the camp the students made public service announcements (PSA) focusing on the deteriorating wetlands.  The Gulf Restoration Network held a contest across the Gulf Region in which several camps and the general public were asked to submit a PSA on this most important issue.  The three girls at Belle Chasse Middle School were the lucky winners.  In addition, their PSA will be aired nationally on the National Geographic and Smithsonian channels in the near future.
