"Literacy Through Storytelling"

First grade students, Pre-K, and Kindergarten students at Belle Chasse Primary, a Blue Ribbon School, were treated to two exceptional performances by the Calliope Puppet Theater during the month of May.  Students in first grade were shown problem solving strategies through fairy tales in the production "Walls and Bridges".  Students in Pre-K and Kindergarten were given the opportunity to study the food chain through a performance of "The Grasshopper and the Ant".

Thanks to a grant concerning "Literacy Through Storytelling" students throughout the school were able to benefit from a wide variety of live performances provided by Young Audiences throughout the school year.  We now say good-bye to this generous grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism, in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Arts Council of New Orleans.

If anyone would like to apply for a similar grant they need only to go to the Arts Council of New Orleans web site http://www.artscouncilofneworleans.org and download the grant application.  Young Audiences can be reached by phone at (504) 523-3525 or on the web at www.ya4la.org.  We hope that you enjoy your performances as much as we did.
