This award represents a joint effort between the AFCEA (Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association) Educational Foundation and the local Silicon Bayou AFCEA Chapter of New Orleans to promote effective science teaching and to enhance the abilities of capable teachers in secondary schools in the Greater New Orleans Area. The award provides $1,000 for a high school or junior high school teacher to purchase consumable supplies for science experiments and activities in the classroom.

In order to assist teachers affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, Best Buy has inaugurated te@ch: Emergency Response. This program will provide assistance to schools around the United States that have enrolled children displaced by these disasters. Microsoft’ s Start Something Amazing Awards Educators and students at least 13 years old -- $5,000 and prizes -- Deadline: September 30, 2005
Microsoft’s Start Something Amazing Awards program is a nationwide search for people who are using Windows technology to do extraordinary things to further what they are passionate about. Five winners will receive one-in-a-lifetime prizes, Microsoft says, including an opportunity to meet Boll Gates, $5,000 in the latest technology, and one of five great prizes in line with their passion – from a day behind the scenes at ESPN to a National Geographic expedition to Tanzania. Toshiba’s Grade K-6 Science and Math Grant Program Teachers in grades K – 6 -- Up to $1,000 per award Deadline: Oct. 1, 2005
The Toshiba America Foundation is giving between 90 and 100 grants of up to #1,000 each for projects that improve science and mathematics teaching. Any K-6 teacher in a public or private school is eligible. Grants will be awarded to the teacher’s school and will be restricted for use by the teacher in his or her classroom. Not more than one application per teacher is allowed. Funds may be used only for the purchase of hands-on materials for students directly related to the planned unit. Computer hardware and field trip expenses may not be included in the budget. Math and Science K-12 teachers in damaged areas, or those who have taken students from affected areas, are encouraged to apply for up to $400 in classroom grants for math and science supplies. They can apply online for the money. They must join AIAA, but it’s free.

For the 2006–2007 school year, grants with a maximum of $6,000 each will be awarded. Only one teacher per school may receive the award. Teacher must inserve teachers in school & must be a member of NCTM. This grant has nothing to do with Katrina.
