Lights, Camera, Action!!! Digital Arts Returns!
The Digital Arts Program is back at Belle Chasse Middle School! Sponsored by Pearson Foundation and Nokia, David Johnson, Andy Lewis, Matthew Croskrey, Tyron Henry, and Kristen Lanker from the Mobile Learning Institute have been instructing 5th and 7th graders on an amazing software program that enables students to create their own movies. Five classes of 5th and 7th graders are using these movie-making skills to enhance their social studies education. In the 5th grade, the teachers decided that each student would make a movie about a famous European Explorer. The 7th graders are creating their movies on the U.S. Constitution. The students have starred in and narrated their own movies. They have also incorporated their own drawings, pictures from the Internet, recordings, and other media sources into the movies.
5th grader, Thanh Nguyen says, “Its fun! We get to experience new things about the computer that you haven’t done before. I might be a director some day!” Another 5th grader, Seth Harvey agrees that it is fun. He says, “I like it because I like using the computer and learning about my explorer, Samuel DeChamplain.”
But we are not saying good-bye to this outstanding team from Mobile Learning. They will be back in December to continue their work with our students.
