BRANAN HONORED AS OUTGOING BOARD PRESIDENT

Sharon Branan receives a plaque from the School Board presented by James C. Hoyle, Superintendent for her outstanding leadership and untiring efforts as Board President over the last two years.
Ms. Branan was particularly instrumental in saving the school system in the early weeks and months after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. In the days following Katrina, when residents were not allowed back, she and other school staff returned to Plaquemines to collect equipment and records to get the payroll out. All employees learned that their pay was secure for at least two months.
She and other Board members were intent on keeping the school system alive. She called school board meetings in Baton Rouge and helped facilitate the decisions that have gotten the Plaquemines Parish School System in the good shape it is today.
Branan was committed to maintaining the jobs of all employees, and all employees are grateful for the opportunity offered by her tireless efforts.
