Plaquemines Parish 2007-2008 Students of the Year

Fifth, eighth, and twelfth grade Students of the Year from the various schools in Plaquemines Parish competed on Thursday, January 31, at the Woodland Central Office for the parish titles. The Plaquemines Parish Students of the Year are Alanna Calmiche, a fifth grader at Boothville –Venice Elementary; Cameron Plumer, an eighth grader from South Plaquemines High; and Deanna Smith, currently a senior at Belle Chasse High. Competition was stiff in all three categories. To even be considered for Student of the Year at one’s school, a student must have at least a 3.5 cumulative GPA.  Recognitions and awards, as well as evidence of leadership, service, and citizenship, are also taken into account. As part of the competition at the district level, students present an academic portfolio, write an impromptu composition, and are interviewed by a panel of six judges.  The three parish winners will go on to compete for the regional title on February 26 at the St. Mary School Board in Centerville, Louisisana.

Other contestants in the fifth grade division were Lexus Andry from Belle Chasse Middle and Lani Turner from South Plaquemines Elementary.  Belle Chasse Middle eighth-grader, Victoria LeJeune, and South Plaquemines High senior, Kassidy Marquize, represented their schools.  We are proud of all of our Students of the Year.
