Unfortunately, not all children start off their learning journeys at the same place. Research has shown that children from low-socioeconomic households have a much smaller vocabulary and that these same children aren't read to as much as their more affluent peers. These children start off at a disadvantage at school. It is the goal of Title I to help level the playing field for these students by providing supplementary educational experiences meant to compensate for their lag and close the achievement gap between at-risk students and their peers.
Hello! I'm Kenny Petkovich, and I am the District's Title I Facilitator. I graduated from Buras High School in 1984. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Our Lady of Holy Cross College, a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of New Orleans, and I have earned 30 graduate hours in Administration and Supervision from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. I've worked in Plaquemines Parish for the past 22 years as a teacher, librarian, and schoo-level facilitator before coming to central office as the district's facilitator. If you have any questions concerning our district's Title I Program, or if I can help you in any way, please give me a call at 504-595-6010 or stop by and visit me at the Title I Family Resource Center located next to the Plaquemines Learning Center.
