After a whirl wind technology boot camp at which attending teachers learned Smartboard basics, how to develop their online presence, learned how to use Google Classroom – going paperless - they are off and running. Google classroom has the students excited because they can use their phones to check their assignments on their calendar and work on their homework in Google drive. (Data rates may apply) Google classroom has inspired several teachers and students at both South Plaquemines High School and Belle Chasse High School. Teachers at the Learning Center, South Plaquemines Elementary School and Belle Chasse High School have launched Google Classroom for their meetings and professional learning communities.
Some teachers at Belle Chasse Middle School, as well as the Boothville Venice Elementary School Fourth Graders, are moving towards a take home NEO program to improve writing, practice keyboarding and prep students for online testing. Boothville Venice students are also working in small groups for online career readiness research with the school counselor. Belle Chasse Primary School has launched this year’s Kid Biz program for all 3rd and 4th graders. They practice reading non-fiction current events streamlined to the individual students’ reading level and then practice online test prep which includes writing skills, note taking, highlighting which is followed by creating written thoughtful responses to the articles.
