Maria Prout, Boothville Elementary Principal, Named Plaquemines Parish 2014 Principal of the Year

The Louisiana Department of Education recognizes that great school leaders are critical to student success. The annual Principal of the Year program honors the state’s most exceptional educators. The selection criteria for the 2014 Principal of the Year has been updated to align more closely with Compass, a system of tools and supports designed to provide meaningful feedback to teachers to help all students achieve, and the Common Core State Standards, both state priorities.
Significant positive impact on student growth evidenced by student data, rigorous instructional practices, and the ability to communicate clear, compelling, student-focused messages are just some of the criteria in the selection process.
Ms. Prout has embraced both Compass and the Common Core State Standards. Her leadership in execution of these state priorities, along with her passion for educating our youth makes her the perfect candidate to represent Plaquemines Parish.
