ATTENTION: Public School Classroom Teachers

Act 351 of the 2007 Regular Session of the Louisiana Legislature enacted the “Temporary Tax Deduction” for individual income tax.  This deduction, available for the 2007 and 2008 tax years only, can be taken by individuals previously employed as a public school classroom teacher in Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard or St. Tammany parish who agree in writing to be employed as a public school classroom teacher for at least three years.

You can find the Revised Statute by going to www.legis.state.la.us.  The home page pops up, and on the left of the screen, click on “Louisiana Laws”.  On the next page that comes up, under “Louisiana Laws Search” it asks for the Title, Article or Rule # and Section #.  Type in Rule 47 and Section 293.  This will bring up the law.  Scroll down to  (9)(a)(x) – the temporary teacher deduction and then on to (11)(a).

Contact your principal or the Belle Chasse School Board Office @ 595-6307 for the appropriate forms needed to qualify for the “Temporary Tax Deduction”.

BCHS Celebrates 80th Anniversary

BCHS Crest Belle Chasse High School, "Home of the Fighting Cardinals," was founded in 1928. The original school was a single brick building. As the community began to grow, a wooden building was placed adjacent to the school. In 1958,  the present facility was opened and the old brick building remodeled. The old building was given the name the "Gray Building" because of the color it was painted. In 1998 a 2.5 million dollar refurbishment of the school was completed. Modern science labs and classrooms, a new music building, a renovated auditorium and gym are some of the improvements.  Student uniforms became a requirement in the 1998-99 school year.  Belle Chasse High School continues to rank as one of the best schools in the New Orleans metropolitan area.

Prior Year Savings Bonds

NOTICE:  Savings Bonds for the second semester of 2006-2007 were mailed to graduates and students who moved.  Some have been returned to the school board office.  Please check to see if your name has been added to our list.  ConocoPhillips generously awards students in grades 6 through 12 who attain a 3.5 or better GPA for a semester a $50 EE Series Savings Bond.  We are trying to locate students who were eligible to receive savings bonds during the 03-04, 04-05 and 05-06 school years but have either moved away or graduated.  In May, students who were enrolled in a Plaquemines Parish public school received their prior year bonds from Betsy Brien, Public Relations Coordinator of ConocoPhillips.  Savings Bonds for the first semester of 2006-2007 were mailed with the end of year report cards.  The second semester bonds will be distributed at the beginning of the school year.  Please be sure to give a forwarding address to your school if you move during the summer.  Please click here for prior year student listing.

Thank you ConocoPhillips!
